Calling all visionaries! The Harlem Fine Arts Show (HFAS) is seeking a captivating poster design that encapsulates the essence of “Art for Beauty” – the theme of our 17th annual celebration of African diasporic art and culture.

We’re looking for you!

1. Artists: Unleash your creative spirit and translate the theme into a visually stunning masterpiece.
2. Graphic Designers: Employ your design prowess to craft a poster that is both striking and informative.
3. Illustrators: Bring your unique illustrative style to capture the essence of “Art for Beauty.”

Submission Guidelines:

1. Theme: “Art for Beauty”
2. Deadline: Friday, November 1, 2024, 11:59 PM EDT
3. Format: High-resolution digital file (300 DPI) PDF, CMYK Color
4. Size: 11×17 inches

Required Information on Design:

1. Title: “Harlem Fine Arts Show”
2. Theme: “Art for Beauty”
3. Dates: February 21 – 23, 2025
4. Location: The Glasshouse, 660 12th Avenue, NY, NY 10019 (between 48th x 49th Street)
5. Logos: Harlem Fine Arts Show Logo & Any Additional Sponsor Logos (with use/readability guidelines provided – linked below.)

1. Artist Statement: A brief statement explaining your interpretation of the theme and your creative approach.
2. Submission: Email your design and artist statement to [email protected] with the subject line “HFAS17 Poster Contest Submission”

Please note: Submissions that do not include the required information will be omitted from the selection process.

Theme: Art for Beauty

1. Prompt & Definition: We invite you to explore the multifaceted relationship between art and beauty. How does art evoke, express, or challenge conventional notions of beauty? What role does beauty play in the African diasporic experience? How can art be a catalyst for positive change and inspire a sense of beauty in the world?
2. Harlem Fine Arts Show Significance: The Harlem Fine Arts Show is a platform that celebrates the richness and diversity of African diasporic art and culture. It provides a space for artists to showcase their work, connect with collectors and art enthusiasts, and contribute to the vibrant cultural landscape of Harlem and beyond.

The Selection Process:

The HFAS17 Advisory Board will review all submissions and select the official poster based on its:

5. Interpretation of “Art for Beauty”
6. Artist statement
