The HFAS New York Show 2015 – Artist Spotlight – Indira Bailey

Indira was born in Plainfield, New Jersey, she is an extraordinary artist, illustrator and educator. Indira attended Pratt Institute receiving a B.F.A. in Illustration and M.A. in Educational Leadership & Supervision from Kean University. Bailey’s work demonstrates her pride, talent and her genuine interest in showing her experience as an African American woman and her travels abroad in a positive light.

 

Indira Bailey, has been awarded the 2014 Woman of Achievement Award by the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Central Jersey Alumnae Chapter for Outstanding Achievement is Arts and Education this past December.  This past summer, Indira sent three weeks at the Creative Currents Artist Residency in Portobelo, Panama. There she introduced herself with a new medium, watercolor. Indira’s is currently she is working on a new series of the illustrating the life of Panama.

Ms. Bailey is a published illustrator and talented portrait painter. Indira’s body of work covers several mediums: graphite, charcoal, mix media, but her love is oil on canvas.  Even as a child, Indira knew she wanted to be a successful artist. Her goal was to illustrate the experience and daily life scenes of African Americans and the African Diaspora in a realistic and enjoyable venue. Ms. Bailey’s has exhibited artwork in galleries, museums, universities and other venues in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Atlanta, Georgia, and Conneticut. Indira is always traveling and seeking out ways to share and expland her art.

Indira is very active in the community by conducting community based educational art workshops for children and families. She loves being an artist, teaching and sharing her talent with others.
